A savory blend of melted mozzarella, provolone, and Parmesan with a touch of garlic and herbs transforms thick-cut bread into an irresistible, semi-homemade Texas toast.

Total Time 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 6 slices thick-cut Texas toast or similar bread
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried parsley optional, for garnish

Instructions

  • Toasting the bread beforehand is optional but enhances crunchiness; omitting this step yields a softer result.
  • In a small bowl, combine the melted butter with Parmesan, garlic powder, and oregano, stirring until fully blended.
  • Place the bread slices in a single layer either in an air fryer basket or on a baking sheet. Evenly coat each slice with the prepared butter mixture.
  • Distribute the mozzarella evenly over each piece of toast. Top each with one slice of provolone.
  • Cook at 350°F in an air fryer for 5 minutes or bake in a convection oven at 375°F for 6 to 7 minutes, or until the cheese is thoroughly melted.
  • If desired, finish with a sprinkle of dried parsley before serving.

Notes

Using day-old bread from the discount shelf is both economical and effective for this recipe.
Leftover garlic toast can be easily reheated in a toaster oven in just a few minutes.
