For the Dough
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar for topping
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tea bag of chai tea leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the Glaze
- 1/2 tea bag of chai tea leaves
- 2 tablespoons whole milk
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup powdered sugar
Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a large mixing bowl, blend together the butter, vegetable oil, and granulated sugar until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Incorporate the powdered sugar, egg, vanilla extract, and chai tea leaves, mixing thoroughly. Gradually sift in the flour, baking soda, and salt, stirring until a cohesive dough forms. Cover and refrigerate the dough for one hour.
Once chilled, portion out 12 tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto a lined baking sheet. Gently press each dough ball to flatten slightly, then sprinkle the tops with granulated sugar. Bake in the preheated oven for 9 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Allow cookies to cool completely.
To prepare the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, whole milk, cinnamon, and chai tea leaves in a small bowl. Adjust the consistency with additional milk or sugar as needed. Drizzle over the cooled cookies and serve.
