Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups shredded mozzarella
  • 8 ounces cream cheese full fat and softened
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce store-bought
  • 27 slices pepperoni thinly cut (7 for the cream cheese layer, 20 for topping, or as preferred)
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil

Instructions

  • Remove the cream cheese from the refrigerator at least 30 minutes prior to preparation to allow it to reach room temperature and become easily spreadable.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Using a rubber spatula, evenly spread the softened cream cheese along the base of a 9-inch pie plate or a shallow casserole dish.
  • Place 7 slices of pepperoni over the cream cheese layer.
  • Sprinkle half of the dried oregano and basil evenly across the pepperoni.
  • Pour the marinara sauce over the herb-topped pepperoni and spread gently.
  • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella over the marinara, then scatter the remaining dried herbs across the cheese.
  • Layer the remaining pepperoni slices generously over the cheese.
  • Bake the dip in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until heated through and the cheese is thoroughly melted.
  • Serve immediately with crackers, pita chips, or your preferred dipping items.

Notes

Ensure the cream cheese is adequately softened to facilitate smooth spreading.
Uncured, pre-sliced pepperoni is ideal for ease and consistency. Adjust the number of slices to suit your preference.
A 9-inch pie dish fits the ingredient volume well; alternatively, a small shallow casserole dish may be used.
Italian seasoning can replace individual herbs for simplicity.
To add a kick, consider sprinkling red pepper flakes before baking.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
Leftover dip makes an excellent topping for pasta.
