Hanky Panky Bites

A savory appetizer featuring a robust blend of spiced meats and creamy cheese atop crisp rye slices, ideal for gatherings and festive occasions.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb Velveeta cheese cubed
  • 1 12 oz package of party rye or pumpernickel bread
  • 1 lb ground hot sausage
  • 1 lb ground beef 80% lean
  • 1 ½ teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions
 

  • Place a large skillet over medium heat and add both the sausage and ground beef. Cook, breaking the meat into crumbles, until no longer pink. Drain the rendered fat.
  • Reduce the heat to low and return the skillet to the stovetop. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, oregano, and garlic powder, then add the Velveeta. Continue stirring until the cheese is completely melted and the mixture is thoroughly blended.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Lay out the party rye or pumpernickel slices in a single layer on a baking sheet.
  • Top each slice with approximately 2 tablespoons of the meat and cheese mixture.
  • Place in the oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the topping is bubbly and hot.
  • Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

These bites can be assembled ahead of time and baked just before serving to streamline party preparations.
